This simple and delicious chocolate peanut butter bar recipe is perfect for family get togethers and is loved by kids. This recipe can be thrown together in a pinch and only has a few easy steps.
Growing up, my mom would whip up a batch of these chocolate peanut butter bars for family reunions and birthday parties and I would always eat until I felt sick. Rich and creamy, a little goes a long way, but as a kid, I would come back for seconds and thirds, regardless. Today, this recipe is one of my go-to desserts when I have a bigger crowd to feed. It feeds 12 to 15 people, depending on how big you cut the bars. The smooth chocolate combined with the crunchiness from the peanut butter and Rice Krispies, mixed with the chewiness of the marshmallows is the perfect combination of flavors and textures.
Why I Love This Dessert:
- With only a few ingredients needed to make this dessert, it is relatively cheap to throw together.
- This dessert can all be made in one pot before being transferred to a 9×13 dish, keeping the dishes minimal.
- Great for serving a crowd.
- Flavorful with a combination of crunchiness and chewiness, these bars are the perfect snack or dessert.
Ingredients:
Unsalted butter- This recipe is best with real butter and not margarine. If you only have salted on hand, that will work fine as well.
Crunchy peanut butter- The crunch from the peanuts adds an extra layer of delicious crunchy texture to this dessert so I highly recommend using crunchy but if you only have creamy, this can be used as well. I have only made this dessert with regular crunchy peanut butter (Jif is my preference) so I am not sure how using a natural crunchy peanut butter would change the texture.
Chocolate and butterscotch chips- Semi-sweet chocolate chips are best in this recipe as I find milk chocolate tends to be too sweet. Butterscotch chips add a unique flavor to balance out the chocolate.
Rice Krispies- Any off brand crisped rice cereal will be just fine in these.
Mini marshmallows- Make sure to use mini marshmallows in this recipe as the larger ones do not melt and distribute the same throughout the bars.
