A rich and decadent family favorite

These oatmeal carmelitas are rich, gooey, chocolatey and delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth. With a buttery oatmeal crust and a chocolate and sweetened condensed milk topping, this dessert is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

This was a dessert that I grew up on and is a favorite in my family. Whether it was for a family game or movie night or a gathering with friends, my mom always knew how to satisfy a sugar craving with this tasty treat. These carmelitas are delicious served warm and fresh and also taste great refrigerated overnight. So simple to make and made with ingredients that you’re likely to already have, this will become one of your go-to dessert recipes as well.

What do I need to make Carmelitas?

  • All-purpose flour
  • Oats, preferably old fashioned but quick oats will work as well
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Unsalted butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Milk chocolate chips

That’s it! It’s that easy.

How to Make Oatmeal Carmelitas

Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2: Combine flour, oats, baking soda, salt, melted butter and brown sugar in a medium bowl.

Step 3: Press mixture into a greased 9×9 or 11×7 pan. Bake for 10 minutes.

Step 4: Remove from the oven and pour sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips over the crust. Bake an additional 20 minutes.

Step 5: Remove from the oven and let cool completely before cutting into squares.  

Storage

Oatmeal Carmelitas keep well in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. If you’re like me, they’ll definitely be gone before that.
