A classic comfort food! This spaghetti meat sauce is meaty, savory and delicious. Serve over your favorite pasta with biscuits or dinner rolls for an easy and comforting weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef- I like to use 85/15
  • Onion- any kind except red
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Sugar- a little bit of sweetness balances the acidity in the sauce
  • Garlic cloves
  • Beef broth
  • Spices and seasonings- Sea salt, black pepper, dried oregano, thyme, basil, crushed red pepper flakes
  • Tomatoes- Crushed, diced and paste

How to Make Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Step 1: In a large pot over medium heat, heat oil. Add onions and sugar and cook until golden, approximately 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add ground beef and cook until fully cooked.

Step 2: Add garlic and cook until fragrant, approximately 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

Step 3: Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.

Step 4: Serve over pasta. Top with parmesan and fresh basil if desired.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Freeze for up to 6 months.
